Failed the FIFA Agent Exam? What Happens Next

Updated 2026-08-08

Short answer

The FIFA agent exam runs once a year, so if you fail, your next attempt is the following year's session. There's no cap on retakes, but you re-register and pay the exam fee again.

Your next attempt: the 2027 session

FIFA has held a single agent exam session per year since 2025. If you don't pass, there's no mid-year makeup date — your next opportunity is the following year's edition.

Fail the 2026 exam (held 28–30 April 2026) and the next chance is the 2027 session, with applications expected to open around January 2027 based on the 2026 cycle.

You start over — registration and fee included

A failed attempt doesn't carry over. You re-apply through the FIFA Agent Platform for the next session and pay FIFA the exam fee again: FIFA states the fee "may not be carried forward to the next Exam". It doesn't publish the amount either — the cost, the payment method and the payment window appear on the Platform before you submit your application, and your member association may not charge you anything in relation to the exam.

The licence itself is only issued once you pass. There's no partial credit and no provisional status while you wait for your next attempt.

Failing and retaking, at a glance
QuestionAnswer
How often can you sit the exam?Once a year (one session, since 2025)
Is there a retake limit? No — no cap on attempts
Do you pay again to retake?Yes — the full exam fee again, paid to FIFA (amount shown on the Platform)
When is the licence issued?Only after you pass

No limit on retakes

FIFA doesn't cap the number of times you can sit the exam. Fail once, twice, or more — you can keep re-registering for future sessions as long as you're willing to pay the fee and wait for the next window.

That matters because failing is common, not exceptional.

Failing is the norm, not the exception

In 2025, just 18% of candidates passed the FIFA agent exam — fewer than one in five. If you failed, you're in the majority, not an outlier.

Use the wait constructively: a full year is enough time to work through the official material properly, rather than cramming in the weeks before the next window opens.

Frequently asked questions

How many times can you retake the FIFA agent exam?

There's no limit. You can re-register for as many future sessions as you need, paying the exam fee each time.

When is my next chance if I fail the 2026 exam?

The 2027 session — FIFA holds one exam per year, so a failed 2026 attempt means waiting for the next annual sitting.

Do I have to pay the exam fee again to retake?

Yes. There's no discount or carryover for a previous attempt — you register and pay the fee again for the next session.
